Dr Lara Jane Bowering - DrPH MISTM MNZPS MPHANZ

Lara's commitment towards healthcare was established while working with landmine-wounded individuals in 1999 on the African continent, at the age of 17. To complement her original physiotherapy degree, she has upskilled with postgraduate qualifications in Tropical & Wilderness Medicine, Refugee & Migrant Health and an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. These qualifications have assisted her work and volunteering on the ground in various roles and various international locations, as well as driven her to strive for excellence in not just the clinical side of her work but also towards policy-making within the systems she works under. Her research has focused on health outcomes as a result of culturally-adapted management for NCDs as well as the awareness and acceptance of the concept of implicit bias within the healthcare workforce, the focus during completing her DrPH Global Health Leadership. She continues to teach and speak on topics such as cultural humility, drawing from her wealth of cross-cultural experiences, and still serves on the healthcare frontline in various locations, most recently with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without borders) for the Gaza Response Team in 2024.

With learning across multiple countries and in many roles, she hopes her experience will benefit the current and future workforce in healthcare and leadership across the globe, as well as the patients we are all here to serve.
